Troubadour is a collection of poems about Australians and Australia modelled on the work of 12th and 13th century troubadours from what is now southern France.

The poems are presented in two parts: Part One is a set of forty-eight poems intended for private reading; Part Two is a subset of twenty-four poems intended for public recital together with music for violin obbligato.

The startling originality that we have come to expect from this poet is complemented here by his astonishing versatility in giving us twenty-four pieces of violin music composed to match the twenty-four poems that they accompany. But then, we would expect nothing less from a poet who was mentored by Judith Wright and taught musical composition by Peter Sculthorpe.
